This conversation will delve into how global economic shifts, regulatory changes, and cultural influences are constantly reshaping the art ecosystem. Professor Mukti Khair will provide an analysis on the socio-economic forces driving art valuation and market behavior. Himanshu Sinha will discuss the legal frameworks, tax incentives, intellectual property rights, and compliance issues in art transactions. Minal Vazirani will offer insights into auction mechanics, bidding trends, and market forecasting. Himanshu Sinha is senior Partner of Trilegal and heads its Tax practice. He has more than 25 years of experience in direct and indirect tax matters including International Tax, Transfer Pricing Corporate Tax, Goods and Services Tax and Tax Controversies. His clients are in a broad range of industries and include leading MNCs, ultra-HNIs, well-known non-profits, Indian conglomerates and funds. He has spoken at several international conferences and published articles with leading international journals. Himanshu is an acknowledged leader in the field of Taxation and has won several international awards. He has a LLM in Taxation from the Harvard Law School. Himanshu is also an avid art aficionado and collector.
Mukti Khaire is the Girish and Jaidev Reddy Professor of Practice at Cornell Tech and the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. She is an economic sociologist who studies the creation of new markets by pioneering entrepreneurs in creative and cultural industries, including art, fashion, film, music, and publishing. Her research has shed light on how entrepreneurs leveraging technology in these industries have changed the structure and functioning of these industries, leading to consequences for society more broadly. Her book, “Culture and Commerce: The Value of Entrepreneurship in the Creative Industries,” was named one of Forbes’ Top 10 Books on Creative Leadership.
Karan Bhagat is the Founder, MD, and CEO of 360 ONE, one of India’s foremost wealth and asset management firms, established in 2008. He has built the organisation into a leader in managing investments for prominent families, entrepreneurs, and institutions across India and overseas. Under his guidance, 360 ONE has expanded its presence globally and is listed on Indian stock exchanges. Karan has been recognised by The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council Roll Call, Fortune India’s 40 Under 40, and Hurun India’s Top Self-Made Entrepreneurs.
Minal Vazirani co-founded Saffronart in 2000 and has been instrumental in its growth and global expansion across Mumbai, Delhi, New York, and London. An avid art collector for nearly three decades, she has curated numerous exhibitions of Indian art worldwide. She co-founded ART MUMBAI (2023) and leads the Saffronart Foundation, which fosters dialogue at the intersection of art, culture, and social change. Minal also serves as co-chair of Tate Modern’s South Asia Acquisitions Committee and has chaired initiatives for the National Museum of Women in the Arts and St+art Mumbai Urban Art Festival. A frequent speaker and industry expert, she holds an MBA from INSEAD and a BSc in Chemical and Bioengineering from UCLA.
Kabir Jhala is a journalist and editor, writing about art, the art industry and South Asia. He is the art market editor of The Art Newspaper, the journal of record for the art world, overseeing its coverage of galleries, auctions, fairs and trade developments. He is based in London.
